Inside our farm
    Our piggerie

Here at Jiamjit Farm we rear 400 pigs at any one time. Our piggerie is a large warehouse-like building measuring approximately 120 m x 40 m. The piggerie is divided into 19 pig pens, each measuring 12 m x 8 m.
18 of our pig pens are used for housing stock. Each pen will contain between 20-25 pigs, depending on the size of the pigs.
We also reserve 1 pig pen for isolating sick or injured pigs that require special care and attention.

Our indoor pig environmental support system allows for the pigs living conditions to be monitored, ensuring minimum fatalities and increased productivity. Our building is well ventilated and we use air conditioning in order to regulate the temperature of the piggerie, which needs to be kept at an optimum 25 degrees celsius. This is because pigs are susceptible to heat stress. Pigs lack sweat glands and cannot cool themselves. Maintaining the temperature at the pig-tolerance range ensures our pigs are healthy and happy while also maximising the pigs growth.

Pigs are omnivorous animals and so are generally fed a combination of grains and protein sources (such as soybeans or meat and bone meal).
Our pigs are fed twice a day, early in the morning and then again in the evening. Feeding is monitored to ensure a balanced and healthy diet for all of our pigs.
Medication is also administered to the pigs via the feed. This is important due to the proximity of the pigs on the farm to other animals which could enable diseases to spread more rapidly. To prevent this drugs such as antibiotics, vitamins, hormones and other supplements are administered preemptively.

Our indoor pig pens allow for easy collection of waste (pig manure). We clean our pig pens everyday. This takes about 3 hours per day. This is done to maintain the pigs clean and healthy living environment, and also to minimise the smell which otherwise can be difficult to manage.
The pigs waste is then stored underground in large waste tanks. We then use this by-product as a means of producing electricity, or for home uses such as cooking. In this way we are helping to prevent global warming, something we are very proud of.
